Derek Inwood (1925–2012) was a British painter known for his evocative landscapes, coastal scenes, still lifes, and figure compositions. Educated at Bedford School, he served in the Royal Navy before completing his formal art training at Salisbury Art School and Southampton University, followed by further study under Oskar Kokoschka in Salzburg and at La Grande Chaumière in Paris.

Inwood’s work blends expressive brushwork with a keen sense of place, drawing inspiration from the North Norfolk coast, Cornwall, and urban townscapes. Working in oil, pastel, and gouache, he developed a distinct visual language marked by atmosphere, texture, and subtle colour harmonies.

He exhibited at the Royal Academy from the 1950s and remained active throughout his life, with over 300 works appearing in auction. Based in North Norfolk from the 1970s, Inwood produced a rich body of work that continues to resonate for its quiet intensity and regional authenticity.
